About Refugees In-Need

Welcome to Refugees In-Need

Learn more about our organization, our founders, and the journey that led to our commitment to serve the refugee community.

Refugees In-Need is a humanitarian, non-governmental organization committed to improving the lives of refugees and displaced persons through targeted, sustainable interventions that restore dignity, rebuild hope, and promote self-reliance.

Founded by individuals with firsthand experience of refugee crises, Refugees In-Need was established in response to the profound humanitarian challenges faced by refugees who have lost family ties, livelihoods, social protection, and access to essential services. Our work is grounded in lived experience, research, and a deep understanding of the long-term impacts of displacement on individuals and communities.

The organization draws its inspiration from the influx of refugees from Liberia into Ghana during the 1990s, following years of civil war and political instability. Thousands arrived with little or no resources, often separated from loved ones and excluded from opportunities to rebuild their lives. These experiences revealed critical gaps in humanitarian response—particularly in understanding the social, psychological, and economic dimensions of displacement.

Refugees In-Need was created to address these gaps by delivering integrated programs that go beyond emergency relief. Our initiatives focus on education, livelihood development, psychosocial support, family reunification, and community integration, enabling refugees to transition from dependency to self-sufficiency.

With donor and partner support, Refugees In-Need works both in refugee camps and host communities to ensure refugees are not only protected but empowered to contribute meaningfully to society. We prioritize accountability, transparency, and measurable impact, ensuring that resources entrusted to us translate into lasting change for vulnerable populations.

By investing in Refugees In-Need, donors and partners help transform lives—supporting refugees to rebuild their futures with dignity, resilience, and opportunity.
